Occupational Therapy
Frequently Asked Questions

Would my child benefit from occupational therapy services?

If you’re noticing that your child is having a harder time doing everyday activities or keeping up with their peers—occupational therapy may be helpful. An evaluation can provide insight into your child’s strengths and the areas that may be impacting their participation. After reviewing the results together, we can determine whether ongoing therapy services would be beneficial. It’s also important to share your concerns with your child’s pediatrician, who can help guide next steps.

Some possible areas addressed by occupational therapy include fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual motor skills, sensory processing, regulation, social skills, executive functioning skills, self care and dressing skills, and feeding.

What are the steps to get services?

Steps to Getting Started
1. Contact Us – Reach out through our contact form or call (208) 244-0066 to check current availability and scheduling options.

2. Obtain a Referral – A referral from your child’s pediatrician is required before the evaluation.
3. Complete Paperwork – Once scheduled, parents will complete intake forms and questionnaires through our secure client portal and via their email to help us understand your child across environments.
4. Evaluation Sessions – Evaluations take 1–2 sessions and include standardized testing to assess your child’s strengths and areas of difficulty.
5. Review Results – During a follow-up appointment, you will receive a written evaluation report, and we will collaborate with your family to discuss findings, goals, and recommendations.
6. Begin Services – If therapy is recommended, ongoing sessions typically occur on the same day and time as the evaluation unless otherwise discussed.

What should I expect at an Occupational Therapy evaluation?

During an occupational therapy evaluation, the clinician’s first priority is helping your child feel comfortable in a new environment. The evaluation includes clinical observations and standardized testing, all completed in a child-friendly, play-based, and age-appropriate way. Because parents complete paperwork and questionnaires ahead of time, the evaluation focuses primarily on direct interaction between the clinician and your child, allowing for a more natural and thorough understanding of your child’s strengths and needs.

Some possible areas assessed through clinical observations, questionnaires or standardized testing include fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual motor skills, sensory processing, regulation, social skills, executive functioning skills, self care and dressing skills, and feeding.

How long are Occupational Therapy Sessions?

Therapy sessions are 55–60 minutes long. Each session includes time to connect with families at the beginning, and the session ends with a discussion about what was addressed, how your child did, progress toward goals, and recommendations for activities to support your child at home between sessions. Parents are always welcome to observe or participate in sessions, or they may relax in our convenient waiting area. We are happy to tailor communication and involvement to each family’s needs and preferences.

What ages do you work with for Occupational Therapy Services?

We work with children and teens ages 2–18, supporting each child’s unique strengths and helping them build the skills they need to thrive at home, at school, and in their daily lives.

How long will my child be in occupational therapy services?

Every child and family is unique, so the length of therapy varies. We focus on supporting your family and helping you reach your goals. Specific recommendations are made after the evaluation, and we continue to have ongoing conversations throughout treatment to ensure therapy meets your child’s and family’s needs.

Are the Canine Modality Specialists a part of every session?

No. Our Canine Modality Specialists have a limited but consistent schedule, so they are not present for every therapy session at the clinic. Their involvement is carefully planned to support therapy goals when appropriate.

If you have a preference for your child to participate in sessions when the canine team is present or not present, please let our staff know and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

What are my payment options?

We currently accept Medicaid, Blue Cross of Idaho, and Regence Insurance. We also offer cash-pay options (card or cash), and can provide superbills so parents can submit claims to their own insurance for possible reimbursement. Payment is required at the time of service. Please contact us for additional information on current cash pay rates.

I have other children…is it ok if I bring them?

Absolutely! We understand that families often have more than one child. You’re welcome to bring siblings to sessions. We have a comfortable waiting room, or there’s a nearby park and a walking trail if you would like to get outdoors while you wait. Just be sure you return by the end of your child’s session:)

What is your attendance policy?

We ask that families do their best to attend sessions on time and aim to participate in at least 75% of scheduled sessions. We understand that life can get busy, and if you’re having difficulty attending, we’re happy to discuss scheduling adjustments or whether this season is the right season for therapy. Our goal is to support your family while making therapy manageable and effective.

Homeschool Consultation (course add-on)
Frequently Asked Questions

Would my family benefit from having a homeschool consultation?

Many families benefit from a homeschool consultation – especially if learning feels more frustrating than fulfilling. If your child struggles with attention, sensory sensitivities, handwriting, organization, emotional regulation, or staying on task, a consultation can provide practical strategies tailored to your home environment. You might also benefit if you simply want reassurance, fresh ideas, or guidance on how to better support your child’s development. As both an occupational therapist and homeschool mom, I help families create realistic, supportive learning plans that reduce stress and build confidence for both parent and child.

Where do I start if my child is struggling?

Steps to Supporting Your Child’s Learning & Developmental Needs
1. Your journey begins with a foundational course designed to help you understand how your child’s brain and development work — giving you a framework to better support their unique needs before we ever
meet..

2. From there, your consultation starts with a directed questionnaire completed at your own pace. This helps us hear your story, understand your child, and learn what’s working and what isn’t — so that when we meet, we can get straight to what matters most.

3. During our scheduled virtual consultation time, we identify the root of the challenges and build a personalized plan with practical next steps you can actually use — tailored specifically to your child and your family’s life.

What should I expect during a homeschool consultation?

Because you have already completed the foundational course and taken the time to fill out a directed questionnaire, we arrive at your consultation prepared. You’ve already done the groundwork — sharing your story, helping us understand your child, and identifying what’s working and what isn’t. That means we can skip the basics and get straight to what matters most: identifying the root of your child’s challenges and building a personalized plan with practical, doable next steps tailored specifically to your child and your family’s life. No overwhelm, no generic advice — just clear, actionable support you can start using right away in your homeschool day and unique family rhythm.

How long are Consultations?

Each consultation session is typically 55–60 minutes in length. Enough time to make an action plan without being overwhelmed. Additional sessions can be scheduled as needed.

How many consultations can I have?

Every child and family is unique, so the number of consultations vary. We focus on supporting your family and helping you reach your goals. Specific recommendations are made during each consultation, and ongoing conversations can occur to ensure the needs of your family are met.

What are my payment options?

We currently accept cash-pay options (card or cash). Payment is required at the time of service. Please contact us for additional information on current cash pay rates.

Craniosacral Therapy
Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during a craniosacral session?

During a craniosacral therapy session, you’ll start with a brief check-in with your therapist. Clients then lie comfortably on their back on a massage padded table in comfortable clothing. Using a very gentle touch, the therapist evaluates the craniosacral system—the soft tissues and fluid around the brain and spinal cord—to identify areas of tension or restriction that may affect the nervous system and overall health.

Through delicate, hands-on techniques, the therapist helps release these tensions, supporting the body’s natural ability to self-correct and improve overall wellness. The touch is extremely light—often no heavier than a nickel—making it effective for deep-seated tension that traditional approaches may not address. Every session is unique, but most clients leave feeling calmer, more relaxed, and “better” overall.

Is craniosacral therapy right for me?

Craniosacral therapy isn’t just for people with specific health concerns. Many adults use it as a form of preventive care to reduce stress, relieve tension, support the body’s natural healing, and promote overall well-being. It can be a gentle, effective way to enhance your health and sense of balance, making it a valuable addition to your self-care routine.

How long are Craniosacral Sessions?

Craniosacral therapy sessions are 60 minutes long, giving clients plenty of time to fully relax and gain the most benefit from the session.

What are the steps to get services?

You can schedule your next appointment conveniently online by clicking the button below or texting (208) 244-0066.

What are my payment options?

We accept cash pay (by card or via cash) at this time. Craniosacral Therapy is not currently accepted by insurances.

What ages do you work with for Craniosacral sessions?

Craniosacral therapy in our office is generally appropriate for ages 10–99, as the individual benefits most when they can relax and remain lying on their back for the session. If you have questions about whether it’s a good fit for your child, please reach out—we’re happy to discuss individual needs. For younger children or those who have difficulty lying on a table, craniosacral techniques are often incorporated into their occupational therapy sessions to support the nervous system as needed.
